Street Ripper 18000 – The Fastest Car That Never Existed

The Street Ripper 18000 started with an idea from my son:

What would happen if you combined the aggressive, angular attitude of an 1980s street machine with a modern American supercar—and then completely ignored the laws of physics?

The answer was the Street Ripper 18000.

A carbon-fiber, V12-powered, nitrous-fed, 100,000-horsepower street car capable of 900 MPH.

Oh, and it runs on soda.

Because apparently gasoline wasn’t interesting enough.

FROM HIS IMAGINATION TO ARTWORK

The Street Ripper 18000 isn’t based on a forgotten production car or an obscure prototype.

It came from my son’s imagination.

He came up with the idea for the car, its ridiculous performance specifications and the personality behind it. We then took those ideas and turned them into the automotive artwork you see here.

Instead of trying to make everything realistic, we decided to embrace the kind of automotive imagination where the answer to “How much horsepower?” can simply be:

100,000 sounds about right.

That became part of what makes the Street Ripper fun.

It’s not supposed to pass an engineering review.

It’s supposed to be the kind of car you would have dreamed up as a kid.

THE STREET RIPPER 18000 LEGEND

Of course, every car this ridiculous needs a backstory.

According to Street Ripper lore, sometime during the 1980s an unknown garage builder in Pennsylvania decided the automotive world wasn’t moving nearly fast enough.

Working away from manufacturers, engineers and presumably anyone capable of saying “this is a terrible idea,” the mysterious builder created what would become the fastest street-legal car on Earth.

The Street Ripper 18000.

Its body was constructed from lightweight carbon fiber.

Its heart was a monstrous V12.

Nitrous was added because apparently the V12 wasn’t trying hard enough.

The resulting combination supposedly produced:

100,000 horsepower.

Claimed top speed:

900 MPH.

And yes…

It was street legal.

Somehow.

THERE WAS JUST ONE PROBLEM.

It needed fuel.

Gasoline?

Too ordinary.

Race fuel?

Not weird enough.

The Street Ripper’s mysterious builder developed an experimental fuel system capable of running the enormous V12 on something available at nearly every gas station in America:

Soda.

Exactly how a V12 produces 100,000 horsepower from carbonated sugar water remains one of the great unanswered questions of automotive engineering.

Different versions of the legend disagree about which soda produced the most horsepower.

Some say cola.

Others insist orange soda produced better throttle response.

There are even rumors that certain highly caffeinated citrus sodas were reserved exclusively for top-speed runs.

No reliable evidence exists to support any of this.

Which makes the story considerably better.

The visual design of the Street Ripper 18000 combines two very different generations of American performance cars.

Its low profile, long hood, sharp lines and wedge-shaped attitude pull heavily from the outrageous street-machine styling of the 1980s.

The wide body, aggressive aerodynamics and planted proportions bring the idea forward into the modern performance-car era.

The result is intentionally difficult to place.

It looks old.

It looks new.

It looks familiar.

But it doesn’t actually exist.

That’s the point.

The Street Ripper 18000 is our version of an alternate-history American performance car—the kind of machine that might exist if an unknown Pennsylvania garage builder had modern technology, 1980s styling and absolutely no adult supervision.
