About

Built in a Garage. Sent Out Into the World.

Dale’s Mom Design is a one-person creative shop run by Alex. It grew out of a garage full of half-finished ideas, car parts, tools, sketches, cameras, printers, microphones, and the dangerous thought that any odd idea is probably worth trying once.

The short version

I make automotive artwork, mechanical illustrations, 3D-print files, project downloads, photos, sounds, shirts, and whatever else falls out of the shop next. Some things are useful. Some are ridiculous. The best ones are usually both.

Why Dale’s Mom?

Dale’s Mom is a made-up person. Instead of making “your mom” jokes, we made jokes about Dale’s mom. You can say anything about her because she isn’t real.

The fun part is that not everyone knows that. They think we’re talking about some guy’s actual mom. Technically, we are talking about Dale’s mom. Except Dale isn’t even the guy’s real name. It’s only a nickname. So Dale’s mom is really the imaginary mother of a nickname.

Eventually, I thought it would be fun to turn the joke into a website. DalesMom.com has a ring to it, and it’s fun to say. The joke became a home for creating, experimenting, and learning, even when an idea doesn’t fit into a “normal” category. That’s the point.

Why this site exists

Dale’s Mom is a place for the finished work and the mess behind it. The shop holds the art and files you can use. The Rabbit Hole shows the builds, experiments, wrong turns, fixes, and strange little victories that happened along the way.

What you’ll find here

  • Automotive art built for people who notice the details.
  • Mechanical art inspired by machines, diagrams, and exploded views.
  • 3D-print and project files for making useful or questionably useful things yourself.
  • Garage projects and the Blawg with the process left in, including the mistakes.
  • Free photos and sounds pulled from real places, real tools, and real experiments.

The rabbit-hole rule

If an idea is interesting enough to keep thinking about, it is interesting enough to test. Make the prototype. Take it apart. Photograph it. Record the noise. Fix what broke. Share what worked. That is the whole philosophy.

Where it’s going

The goal is not to force everything into one tidy niche. It is to keep building a useful, entertaining archive of art, files, experiments, and projects with a recognizable point of view. I also want to make it easier for other curious people to use the work or start making their own.
